Silver End Academy - Witham, Essex

Continuing DSD’s close relationship with Inspires MAT, we recently had the pleasure of working on the new logo and branding of Silver End Academy. Headteacher, Anna Wightman was keen to retain the heritage that surrounds the village’s association with Francis Henry Crittall and his world-famous steel-framed windows. Silver End Village was originally built to provide Crittall’s workforce with houses and amenities in close proximity to his window factory.

With this in mind the design uses a grid structure to mimic the window frames with elements housed within each segment. The lower sections forming an open book to represent studying and learning, which then run upwards into a flower motif for growth, and a pencil for creativity.

A clean contemporary typeface is used for the main word mark, with the ‘Academy’ text matching the layout of the main Inspires MAT branding providing a subtle link to the trust.
