How we work...
The graphic design process at Dan Summers Design (DSD)
By designing an overall theme, normally in the form of a logo design and brand suite, with a view to projecting the distinctive character and undoubted quality of your business or organisation.
Great design is extremely important to help achieve product differentiation in today's crowded market place and the quality of its creative output could ultimately be linked directly to a business’s success. At DSD, we aim to make the graphic design process as enjoyable and productive as possible for all clients irrespective of size and budget.
The All-Important Design Brief and Initial Design Work
All projects at DSD commence with a detailed brief taken either at an initial face-to-face meeting at the studio or via an in-depth discovery call. This is the most important part of the design process as it provides us with essential background information regarding your business or organisation, your products or services and your company ethos. If required, we’ll give you guidance in preparing the brief. That gives us a clear idea of what style of design is required to identify and promote your business image and key message to your target market.
As soon as the brief has been taken, we will confirm our cost quotations to you by email, and start the process of designing your artwork. Our initial designs are normally computer generated and sent to you by email in an easy to access format. In most instances we will supply just our number-one design proposal for review. This will include a range of example applications of the proposed design to real-world assets.
Review and Revisions of Initial Designs and Final Design Artwork Output
Once the initial design proposal has been sent we will ask for your opinion. Usually, a pattern emerges and certain elements such as colour and typography will be worked on further. By this time the style and appearance of our design to fulfil the brief will normally have been agreed, but if it’s thought that the design is still not right for final execution we can discuss further options.
Thereafter, a single set of final revisions will have been allowed for in your initial quotation, with any other changes after that being charged pro rata at our hourly rate for the job.
Once your preferred designs have been signed off, they will be made up to professional print or media specifications and supplied via email. As standard, the most common file types are .eps .ai .pdf .jpeg .png and .tiff plus any software-specific files such as Adobe InDesign.
Once payment is made at the end of the project, you will receive full copyright for the artwork together with a Brand Guidelines document for ease of execution and consistency in producing and policing the applications of your new brand.
