King's Ford Academy, Colchester, Essex

Continuing DSD’s close relationship with Inspires MAT, we recently had the pleasure of working on the new logo and branding of King's Ford Academy in Colchester. Previously know as Iceni Academy, headteacher Karen Jackson was keen to create an identity that linked with and built on the existing King's Ford Infant and Nursery School branding with which Iceni would be merging under one banner.

The new motif is a modern version of the Fleur-de-lis symbol which is currently used for the Infant School and Nursery. The Fleur-de-lis symbol often symbolises virtue or high moral standards, something that resonates with the visions and values of King's Ford Academy. The motif also includes an upwards break in the central section signifying progress and aspiration.

The selected typeface has been utilised to produce a modern, individual style, with the use of specific lower case characters to produce a softer feel. The bespoke word mark also includes details such as the apostrophe being formed from the lower section of the Fleur-de-lis motif.

The ‘Academy’ text matching the layout of the main Inspires MAT branding providing a subtle link to the trust.
