Hidden Disability Awareness - Essex

The sunflower is a widely recognised symbol for hidden disabilities amongst families with young children with autism and similar neurodevelopment conditions, promoting positivity and optimism.

Hidden Disability Awareness (HDA) aims to highlight hidden disabilities utilising the universal symbol of the sunflower, but in a more aesthetically pleasing way, allowing those who live with conditions that are not immediately apparent to feel comfortable and proud to promote such an important issue.

A stylised representation has been created for HDA, with an instantly recognisable yellow and brown colour palette. This is backed with a bright green tone promoting feelings of safety, hope and balance. The sunflower motif is paired closely with the ‘HDA’ initials to produce its own identity, with the characters containing subtle details such as the radius finishes on the ascenders of the ‘h’ and ‘d’ and precise alignment throughout.

A wide range of applications have been thought through covering all bases, from towels for beach days, backpacks for school, car decals for trips out and about and wristbands for wider representation.
