Designing an overall theme with a view to projecting the personality and essence of your business or organisation.

Design is extremely important to product differentiation and the quality of its output is directly linked to a business’s profitability. At DSD, we aim to make this process as enjoyable and productive as possible for all our clients.

The All-important Design Brief

All projects at DSD commence with a detailed brief taken either at an initial meeting or via an in-depth email. This is the most important part of the design process as it provides us with essential background information regarding your business or organisation, your products or services and your company ethos; the values and beliefs shared by people in your organisation and often described to outsiders as ‘the way we do things around here’.

A business’s culture generally shapes the way that it treats its customers and knowing the ‘nuts and bolts’ about your business helps us to get a clear idea of what style of design is required to identify and promote your key marketing message, rather than getting bogged-down with the details!

Initial Design Work

As soon as the brief has been taken, we will confirm our cost quotations to you in writing or by email, and start the process of designing your artwork. If we are supplying printed matter or marketing support materials these too will be included in our costings. Nowadays, our initial designs are mostly computer generated and sent to you by email in a format that is easy for you to review and evaluate. In most instances we will supply two or three variations on a theme and many clients work on a ‘pick ‘n’ mix’ basis when choosing their preferred elements.

Review and Revisions of Initial Designs

Once the initial designs have been sent we will ask for your opinion of our proposals. Usually, a pattern emerges and one or two items will be worked on further by refining certain elements such as colour and typography. By this time the style and appearance of our designs to fulfil the brief will normally have been agreed, but if it’s thought that the design is still not right for final execution further new ideas will be created. The process of refining and reviewing will continue until you’re happy with the final design. Thereafter, a single set of final revisions will have been allowed for in your initial quotation, with any other changes after that being charged pro rata at our hourly rate for the job.

Final Design Artwork Output

Once your preferred designs have been signed off, they will be made up to professional print or media specifications and normally supplied via email although the final artwork can be supplied on a CD-ROM upon request.

As standard, the most common file types are .eps .ai .pdf .jpeg .png and .tiff plus any software-specific files such as Adobe InDesign.

Our Terms of Business

Once payment is made at the end of the project, you will receive full copyright for the artwork.
